PIKE TWP - A landfill operator moving trash around the Countywide landfill this morning found a dead man.

Stark County sheriff’s deputies and coroner’s investigators went to the Countywide Recycling & Disposal Facility, 3619 Gracemont St. SW, shortly after 7 a.m. when the operator called them after finding the fully clothed body. No further description was available, said Tim Vandersall, general manager and engineer of the landfill.

Investigators tentatively identified the man and were working to notify his family, Capt. Gary Shankle said. He would not release the man’s name pending that notification.

Investigators believe the body arrived at the landfill earlier in the morning.

Vandersall said about 400 trucks daily enter the facility from as far away as Cleveland.

Harry Campbell, chief investigator for the coroner, said Coroner P.S. Murthy planned to conduct an autopsy this afternoon. Murthy would determine how the man had died.
